The Amber Archives: Ambre Fauve

Warm, glowing and richly spiced, Ambre Fauve explores a more vibrant and unexpected expression of vintage amber.

Its foundation is an approximately 50-year-old Indian amber oil, softened and deepened by decades of age. Into this is folded Osmanthus and Gurjun Balsam — extending the resinous warmth of the amber while introducing the distinctive fruity, leathery nuances of Osmanthus.

Saffron runs generously through the composition, bringing warmth, spice and a subtly leathery character, while touches of Grapefruit and Oud introduce brightness and darker woody depth.

Together, these materials create an unusual transformation. The Balsams, Saffron and Amber develop an almost effervescent dark sweetness — reminiscent of cola spices, caramelised resins and warm aromatic bark — while flashes of fruit and Osmanthus move through the composition.

Ambre Fauve is amber with energy: glowing rather than heavy, spicy rather than overtly sweet, with an intriguing dark-fruited character beneath its warmth. Familiar in feeling, yet remarkably difficult to place.
